ASIAN LAW STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION Asean Law Students Association (hereinafter ALSA) was formed on May 18th 1989 by a group of law students from ASEAN countries, which are Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. The agreement to form ALSA, took place in Jakarta during the 1989 ALSA conference.

The initiative to build ALSA was stated by the Indonesian Association of Law Students Council in its second National Assembly which was held in the year of 1987 in Minahasa . Two years after, Indonesian Association of Law Students Council held the ASEAN Law Students Conference in Jakarta from the 15th to 20th of May 1989 which was supported by ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Law Association (ALA), Asian Foundation, Indonesian Government and ASEAN Countries Governments, The ASEAN Law Students Conference was an event which gave birth of ALSA.

Since the information technology growth rapidly, and the interaction trough communication with the globalization principles emerged, ALSA accepted it as a strong motivation to expand the network and friendship between the law students in ASEAN countries with law students from the rest of Asian countries. Therefore, on September 7th, 2002 ALSA and the other Asian countries which unified in the Asian Law Students’ Association (Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong) agreed to merge their organizations through the Tokyo Agreement to become Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA).

Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) is a non-governmental and non-political organization whose members consist of the law students from Asian Countries. The purposes of ALSA are to promote a better understanding and appreciation to different legal systems on each country, as well as promoting friendship among the students and to facilitate the exchange of information and newest legal issues. More than 5000 law students in Asia joint to ALSA.

Well,now let's broaden our horizon about ALSA LC UNHAS. After the establishment ALSA, there was no Local Chapter like what is now.Like wise in UNHAS,the local chapter was not exist yet at that time.The local Chapter in UNHAS had just started working in 1995 under the command of Miss Sonya as the 1st director.The director of ALSA LC UNHAS were as follows:
